Beautiful, mystical shot, Kathi; evokes kind of a "magical forest" sense. Really gorgeous. Congrats on your sale, well deserved!

Thanks so much, Lorraine!

There are gorgeous Trillium carpets under the trees in places along the Oregon coast... and I agree with your professor -- do NOT harm a Trillium! :) Your photograph is a testament to the beauty of these wonderful shade-loving flowers! :) Well done, Kathi! F/V

Kathi Shotwell replied:

Thank you, Mick! I love your comment and knowing you feel the same about Trilliums. I'd love to go find the places they grow abundantly in Oregon, on a trip back. Is their blooming season as short there as it is in Ontario? Makes timing tricky. I just sort of stumbled upon these. Went back a week later and they were almost gone.

Artist's Description

Trilliums carpet the forest floor on the Niagara Escarpment. Trillium grandiflorum is the Provincial Flower of Ontario. There is something special about the trillium that touches people's hearts. Across the continent in Washington State, my botany professor told our class that if we harmed a trillium we would fail his class.

About Kathi Shotwell

Kathi Shotwell

Art is communication, and no art is finished until it is shared. It is my pleasure to share mine with you here. I love the light. The way it caresses shapes and forms. The way it can stop motion or enhance it. The way it can hide things in shadows or highlights... and reveal them to those who look closely. I love colors, but a lot of times you can see the light better without the distraction of many colors. My portfolio has some of everything, and a lot of monochrome. I sold my first photograph in 1975 and kept a camera in my hand ever since, making pictures and learning through various classes and finally a BFA from Sonoma State University in Northern California. I started with traditional black and white silver prints and mixed...
